Hoping for a romantic getaway on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia? You’ll find that there are a whole range of interesting activities, many of which are organised through local luxury hotels, like Cap Maison. The island is covered in beautiful gardens, bordered with white warm beaches, and surrounded by emerald green water that is perfect for swimming. Within each of these environments there various ways that couples can find some time to themselves in a pristine natural setting, or learn something new and interesting together with a local expert as a guide. Think outside of the normal spa holiday retreat (though Cap Maison and other hotels do have spas) and experience something new in a romantic way with your partner. This article will give you some ideas that you can take with you on your trip to help put together the perfect romantic afternoon.
Romance in the Water
Stripping down to your swimsuit with your partner is a great way to get your romantic holiday off to a good start and being in Saint Lucia will give you great access to a wide variety of fun water activities and sport. Depending on your hotel, your water activities will vary slightly or significantly. Cap Maison has some great pools (definitely go through the brick barrel passage way to check out the pool in the Spanish-style courtyard). Or you can enjoy some ‘wild swimming’ – a very romantic and sexy version of swimming – in one of the many beautiful beaches and coves nearby, such as Smugglers Cove Beach with its clean, crisp green waters and secluded feel. After suntanning, stimulate your senses and get your adrenaline going with some water sports like kite surfing or diving. Even if you’ve never dived before, you can get lessons at many of the hotels before setting off with a qualified instructor.
Ok, so birdwatching maybe doesn’t sound that romantic at first, but being in the beautiful tropical gardens of Saint Lucia looking at all the different birds and plants is definitely a great way to spend the afternoon with your partner. You can go alone, or you can go out with local ornithologist Adams Toussaint, who organizes a unique half day tour in the tropical gardens around around the island. With his Environmental Science degree from Hartwick College in New York, Toussaint is a specialist of plant species and bird life on the island working for the Forestry Department; he is open with his knowledge, and his passion and enthusiasm are infectious.
There’s lots that you can do on Saint Lucia with your partner beyond just enjoying the beaches, and there are some more unique and interesting activities that you can join in with. Cap Maison is just one of the many hotels which offers just one such experience: couples cooking classes. In the early afternoon you’ll explore local markets with a creative and experienced chef, teaching you about local produce and food culture. You then get a private lesson learning about indigenous foods and new cooking techniques.
